Community Health and the Black Church
The HI Graduate and Former Students Association is dedicated to improving health education for African Americans and all interested residents in the Vance County community. As such, association members hope to work with the 30+ Black churches in the Henderson area and other public health service organizations to coordinate health related initiatives that will be organized to educate and service community members. Association members will look to Black churches to lead these efforts and work with groups such as; Public Health Departments; the Henderson Wellness Community; Maria Parham Hospital; Vance County Department of Social Services; Granville-Vance Health Department; Carolina Fellows Dental Clinic, Local Health Care Providers and other community service groups to host health fairs and other health education events to provide these services. Upcoming sessions will likely address health issues such as: Managing Your Blood Pressure; Managing Stress; Strokes, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and other underlying health issues that disproportionately affect the African American Community. Details of these events will be advertised to the public to ensure all members of the community are made aware of these upcoming events.
